About the Author
Stephen L. Herman--both an electrician and a teacher for more than 30 years--authored numerous popular textbooks on the subjects of electricity and mathematics. Now retired, Mr. Herman spent two decades as lead instructor for the Electrical Technology Curriculum at Lee College in Baytown, Texas, where he received an Excellence in Education Award from the Halliburton Education Foundation. He also taught at Randolph Community College in Asheboro, North Carolina, for nine years, and helped establish an electrical curriculum for Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Our college class text was practical problems in mathematics for electricians vol.8, but our instructor informed us that vol. 5, 6, 7 & 8 were acceptable study texts for the course. I attend Los Ageles Trade & Technical College for Solar Electric/Photovoltaic Systems, Installation & Maintenance-Econmt105,theory & technology, & Econmt205,Solar Electric/Photovoltaic Systems, Installation & Maintenance-Practices & Procedures. Also in the math class are students in the IBEW linemans program & inside Electricians program that up to 80% of graduates are preferred candidates for the LADWP and So. Cal. Edison and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. I saved over $35 getting an earlier edition.

Maria Moya is currently the sole owner of IAM Enterprisees. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Mexico and a Doctorate from the University of Denver. In addition, Moya has served as a CDL Coordinator at a local community college. She has been an educator, trainer, and adult education specialist for over 20 years. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

As a kid I used to collect and read Mad Magazine avidly even after Sister Miriam Lucille warned me that "they [MAD] were pink around the edges" because they made fun of our American heritage. Sister Lucille, I'm sure, never could see the humor that caused us to laugh and chuckle our way through grade school. And it wasn't until now, forty-plus years later that I could appreciate how sophisticated their humor and satire really was and still is.

Seeing the silly face of Alfred E. Newman wearing a tee shirt that reads "I'M WITH STUPID" with a red arrow pointing to the man he is standing next to, namely George Weasel Bush, was an irresistible impulse to turn back the clock toward my youth to see if the magazine could tickle my funny bone as it had so many years earlier. It did.

First, there is a tremendous amount of work that goes into a publication of such detail and volume. I will bet that these Mad writers and cartoonists go through at least a couple of cases of beer before they come out with the finished product.

You can appreciate its level of sophistication with its "Pirates of the Constitution" with cartoons of Bush, Cheney and Rice in Johnny Depp style dress, the play on the Gap commercials with Fi(red) and Disappea(red), or the comparison of George W. to each president in American history. This requires a phenomenal amount of work and knowledge. And Cheney with a sadistic look in hunting garb, was an especially creative cartoon. My favorite: $9.99 US (Cheap) $11.99 CAN (Cheap, eh?)

As we find truth in humor, we also find truth that is not so humorous, but should not be forgotten. Seeing a caricature of George Bush, on a stage, in a tux, saying: "Hmm ....No Weapons of Mass Destruction here..." and then thinking: "Hoo Whee! What a tough crowd!" is not funny when the audience consists of rows of flag-draped coffins. Nevertheless the reader cannot miss the message of a president who has cost the lives of so many over missed or cherry-picked intelligence, and then, makes light of it. That is an accurate portrayal of sick humor that is Bush's and not MAD's. The writers also remind of us of certain utterances such as "I'm not going to change, see? I'm not trying to accommodate. I won't change my philosophy or my point of view. GWB: Feb. 7, 2004. And we certainly have paid a high price for such a train of thought.

So, with another one year plus left with George W. Bush as president, I have to parody Alfred E. Newman and ask: "What, me worry?"

Well, yeah, I really do.

But, I wouldn't worry about buying this issue. It's destined to be a classic.

Another MAD winner

THE MAD WAR ON BUSH is some very funny stuff about our current president that I think people of all ages would enjoy. There's a lot of variety here, with everything from comic strip spoofs to photos with made-up dialogue, to a Dr. Seuss version of the White House. One of my favorite segments is entitled "MAD's Handy Glossary to the War On Terror," where, for instance, Mission Accomplished is defined as "The White House definition of knocking over a statue" (Saddam's, if you recall). Another of my faves is "The Bush Campaign's TV Commercial if He Was Running Against Jesus," which has W criticizing some things that Jesus actually said. A riot! The two fold-out posters in here, which each measures 16 X 10.5 inches, are nice extras that I've already framed for my wall. One has Bush as Uncle Sam, holding a set of headphones to one ear while saying "I Hear You Thanks to Unwarranted Wiretapping," and the other is the Iraq War made to look like a Star Wars poster. I did give the book 4 stars, though, because while much of it is great stuff, I don't feel like it all is. And if you already buy every copy of MAD Magazine, I believe all or most of this book is reprinted from there. However, I should note that MAD's editor, John Ficarra, says in the preface that MAD pokes fun at all presidents, not just conservative ones. OK, whatever you say, John!

Not always the articles I would have chosen, but overall funny and on target. One of my favorites is the campaign ad if he were running against Jesus. It really lampoons political ads in general.

About the Author
Cullen Bunn grew up in rural North Carolina, but now lives in the St. Louis area with his wife, Cindy, and his son, Jackson. His noir/horror comic (and first collaboration with Brian Hurtt), The Damned, was published in 2007 by Oni Press. The follow-up, The Damned: Prodigal Sons, was released in 2008. Aquaman the Barbarian

I've happily collected each Aquamn volume since the start of the New 52. Geoff Johns's run on Aquaman was fantastic. I don't think there are many that would dispute that. Jeff Parker was a noticeable change, but his stories kept me on the edge of my seat in ways Johns never did. Then came Cullen Bunn. His style is much more in your face. This is like Aquaman the action movie. There is a lot of inner dialog from Arthur. Like a lot. But to be honest, that's pretty much my only gripe with this volume. That and the fact that it starts in such a different place from where Vol. 6 ended. I kind of expected that though. New writer. New direction. It's just how it works.

The new weapon is awesome. I say weapon because it's no ordinary trident. The new powers are exactly what Aquaman was missing; for me at least. Unless I missed something, the new outfit is never "officially" explained. It's noticed, but not explained. No big deal.

I don't want to give anything away, but this volume isn't as bad as the other reviewers are saying it is. Aquaman is still a badass. Even more so now. Mera doesn't get as much page time as she did in Maelstrom, and there isn't as much of her wit as I was beginning to fall in love with, but she's still Mera and she is irreplaceable. This volume brings lots of changes and possibly too much refreshment to an already great title. It was over too soon to say the least, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I hope the next book gives a little more page time to Aquaman's supporting cast, but whatever happens, I can honestly say that I read the book and I'm still a fan.

The perfect gift for any Easter basket.

This board book has a softcover on it which is ideal for little hands to grasp. It can be wiped clean and is easy to hold. There are so many adorable baby animal pictures inside. Any child that loves animals will adore looking at these drawings again and again. The words rhyme in an easy way and kids will enjoy the story of being thankful for Easter and all that God has made. Each page shows baby animals having fun and frolicking in all that is Springtime.

This is the second book in the God BlessTM series and I’m sure kids aged 1-5 will love hearing both of these stories over and over. Being cheerful and counting one’s blessings never gets dull.

I am completely taken with this sweet little book that focuses on all of the blessings of Spring. Rain and flowers, new birth and butterflies are all signs of the season. But the most important one is that of God's love through His Son, Jesus.

The illustrations are beautiful in their soft pastel colors. The words are very lyrical in their rhyming cadence. You are going to enjoy reading this over and over to your little ones!

A Must-Read

Even if you dont know anything about science, kids, or haven't been in school for decades, Science Fair Season will suck you in from page one. From a little girl who helps develop a treatment for Autism to a 14 year-old who built a nuclear fission reactor that's now people used by the U.S. government, these children's stories will amaze, challenge, and humble you. Dutton weaves these incredible stories with engaging writing and shows how bright our future looks with these kids who will undoubtedly lead the way.

Wonderful, "Tell-Your-Friends-About-It" Kind of Book

This book is entertaining, educational, uplifting, and inspiring. I've already convinced three people to read it, and I'm still going. Judy Dutton is MY kind of author. I learned so much...not just about the science fair scene and the many different fascinating projects and inventions of these brilliant young minds, but also about people - the kids themselves and the people who helped them to develop their God-given gifts and become winners. As a grandmother of 12 kids, (no robot!), I have a fresh desire to really tune-in and listen to each one and take part in helping them win everyday.

Review of Science Fair Season

This book is like "Spellbound" but much better, since these kids aren't spelling esoteric words--they're building nuclear reactors in their garages and making things explode! They're actually solving the world's problems as well. One boy's science fair project is so sophisticated the Department of Homeland Security has recruited him to fight terrorism. Another girl developed a treatment that helped her autistic cousin communicate with others, and now it's being used in schools across the country. Another competitor is a Ford Model, proving that science fairs aren't the nerdy pursuits they were in the past. These kids are our nation's unsung heroes, and their inspiring stories are the stuff Hollywood movies are made from--the movie "October Sky" comes to mind. I wouldn't be surprised if this book is made into a movie, these stories would unfold beautifully on the big screen.

This book really does work

I have been going through a very difficult time and I had tried therapy and read lots of self help books. Nothing was making any difference. Then a friend recommended this book as it made a huge change for her life and she was raving about it. I decided to give it a try - I liked the CD idea. Even after just the 1st two chapters and listening to the CD only once I noticed a massive difference in how I felt when I woke up in the morning and throughout the day. Things that would normally have made me very tearful just dont anymore. I love that its very practical, no fluff and most important it gets results fast... and its so easy!

amazing......actually worked

This cd was given to me by my mom. I had been feeling rather blah and depressed. The book is good but it's the cd at the back of the book that made all the difference. I was skeptical but tried it. After a week my whole perspective on my life changed and I felt an inner joy.

Want to be happy?

I suffer from chronic depression. When I listened to this cd, I wasn't expecting much...but I was so wrong! I was actually happy! Now life has come along, with it's harshness & pain...so I'm reading the book and listening - really listening to the cd, and it pulls me back up again! Remarkable!
