The Hawk Missile in Vietnam

Clair W. Clark joined the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, entering a program which allowed him to finish his college degree without being drafted by going through a commissioning course in Quantico, Virginia. He then specialized in surface-to-air missiles and was trained in Yuma, Arizona and Fort Bliss, Texas on the Hawk surface-to-air missile and then went on to Vietnam.

Clark's writing is very good and it really makes the reader feel as if they can picture the action. I can honestly say I learned quite a bit about the Marine Corps as it operated back in those days. With that being said, I believe this book could have been tightened up a little bit (from 400 pages to maybe 250-300). After all, I don't think I really need to know the exact route Clark took from MCAS El Toro to Yuma in 1968 nor the Ballad of John Jones and his short career as a pilot. Spelling errors are a bit annoying too, such as the word "flack" for "flak", the discussion of HU1E gunships, and acronym EOD being translated as "Emergency Ordnance Disposal" instead of "Explosive Ordnance Disposal."

I served in Army Hawk myself in the 1980s, part of that in a "square" battery like the author. I believe he has done an excellent job of conveying what it was like to operate Hawk. In describing the destruction of the local ASP and the effects of the explosion on exposed Hawk missiles I guess it never occurred to me what effect such a thing could have on the "open-ended" hydraulic system.

Great book, very kid friendly

I ordered this book for my daughters (ages 6 and 8). It came yesterday, and they have already read it 3 times. The artwork was definitely age appropriate, and the content was engaging and fun. I am really happy with this comic book. There are so many options out there, but not very many that are appropriate for young children. I am very excited about this and plan to order more from this series.

My almost 5 year old LOVES her first comic book

This is my daughter's first 'comic book' and she couldn't have been more excited when we opened the box. The illustrations are great and the words are easy to read. We've seen the dolls in the store and she instantly fell in love despite not knowing the story behind them. It's clever to see the girls in a high school setting working together in a world very different than the adult version of the characters. I look forward to getting more of these for her as they are released.

Beautifully illustrated with a well-devised plot that showcases each of the main heroines' powers. It also hints at characters who will be further developed later on.

About the Author
Elaine Louie is a staff member of the New York Times, where she writes the "Temporary Vegetarian" column for the Diners Journal Blog online. She also contributes to the Home and Styles sections. She won the 1995 James Beard Journalism Award for a series of stories on ethnilc foods in New York City that was published in the Times. Vegetable ABC's

This book contains about 100 recipes. They are listed in alphabetical order by the main ingredient; starting with asparagus to beans, cabbage, eggplant, rice and zucchini, among others. Many recipes are from experienced chefs. The time needed to complete the recipes is given and there is some helpful information about the dish.

The dishes are not that difficult to prepare and many are not, for that matter spectacularly different recipes. Even though my family has eclectic tastes and loves vegetables, many of the recipes were not appealing to them, like; cabbage and mushroom lasagna or almond grape gazpacho or the sweet pea crostini with whipped ricotta and fresh mint. Other recipes were very similar to what I have in other cookbooks, such as corn chowder, zucchini pancakes and mac and cheese.
There are no pictures at all, but there is an index.
This is a book for those who want more vegetarian and vegan recipes.

I think I could actually be a vegetarian!

I adore this book. The recipes conveniently arranged by vegetable, facilitating seasonal shopping for those who like to stay local, they are remarkably easy to follow, and the results are scrumptious! I am a life-long tofu-hater (I really didn't think there was anything that could make it delicious -- even deep-frying, which is saying a lot), but I made the tofu enchiladas and they have completely changed my mind, and the minds of a whole tableful of carnivorous men. No one could believe it wasn't meat. For someone who is actually trying to go vegetarian at last, this book is a godsend. The path just got more delicious!

Best Cookbook for Green Market lovers

I live near the Union Square Green Market in NYC. I shop the market first thing in the morning four times a week and I have begun to carry the book with me so I can match recipes to the best produce of the day. So far the results have been fabulous. I look forward to going though a whole year of cooking with "The Occasional Vegetarian".
Most of the recipes are favorites from the very best chefs from the great restaurants in the city. These recipes really work.

Very Inspirational!

I happened across this book completely by chance in a bookstore. I was looking for new ideas for my elementary classroom. I remember thinking that the title seemed funny. Once I picked it up though, I was literally hooked (pardon the pun)! I couldn't put it down, and it has inspired a great many new ideas for me to use in the classroom. The advice and examples are so practical and inspiratioal. As a philosophy, it is a perfect fit for the classroom setting. It intends to make school what it should be... a place we all enjoy going and spending time.

FISH! A REMARKABLE WAY TO BOOST MORALE AND IMPROVE

RESULTS by Stephen C. Lundin, Harry Paul and John Christensen

has become one of my favorite business books . . . so when I saw

that the principles have been applied to education in a book, SCHOOLS OF

FISH! by Philip Strand, Christensen

and Andy Halper, I knew that it was something that I had to read.

And am I ever glad that I did, in that it inspired me with its ideas and

techniques for better classroom management . . . though all the

many examples were from grades K-12 situations, I do believe that

they could be related to any level of education--up through and

including graduate school.

One quote from the book says it all: "We're very serious about

learning; play is just how we feel while we're doing it."

It got me thinking about the fact that education should be more

fun . . . for the teacher, as well as the student . . . you don't

have to be a rocket scientist to make this happen . . . just utilize

some of the methods that have worked for others, apply them to

your situation, and you'll be all set.

There were several memorable passages; among the ones that

I especially liked were these:

* That duality also transfers to adult relationships. As daily pressures

compete for our attention, it's amazing how people can seem rude

or, equally, how simple gestures stand out. For example, a certain

principal never answers his phone when talking with a visitor. "It

will ring and the other person will say, "It's OK if you get that," he

explains. "I tell them, `No, you're more important to me right now.'

They're always surprised," Why? Possibly because it's such a

powerful statement of respect and commitment.

* When it came to dealing with parents, Puntenney wanted to make sure

she not only called home to discuss problems, but also to congratulate

students. She sent good-news postcards home, and sometimes she

just called parents to tell them about their child's success.

"Some parents were in disbelief when I called," she says. "They

said things like, `Are you sure you have the right student?' One

said, `Nobody from school has ever called with good news before!

Thank you."

* At Avon Intermediate School, there's room at the table for everybody.

"Recently I bought furniture for the staff dining room--four tables with

four chairs for each table," says principal Scott Raftery. "The next day,

when I came in the dining room, the teachers had pushed all the tables

together to create one huge table so they could eat like a big family."

The above is just basic stuff, but it works . . . if you're looking for the ideal

gift for any teacher (past, present or future), then you won't go wrong

buying SCHOOLS OF FISH!

Not what I expected

I bought this book after a teacher at a conference shared how the Fish philosophy improved her work climate. I expected the book to be more like typical teaching books with concrete examples of how to implement strategies in the classroom. Instead it is more of a collection of inspirational stories from teachers who have followed the philosophy.
I then went to the website listed in the book for curriculum ideas, only to find that I have to pay for them.
Overall, it was an interesting and rejuvenating read, except for the constant plugs for their video, which of course can be bought separately on their website.

This is not what we thought it would be. No where does it say it is a book for a computer related course. We were trying to find out metal fabrication information books.... This is not a guide...

Everything sells

This is a book that you would get for free in your Autodesk package. Very dry run down tutorials. It took me an hour to go through 100 pgs. and get 2 usefull things out of it (1 per 50 pgs. to help you with the math). It probably took even less time to write it. (Sorry if I offended Travis and Neil but take pride in your creations, step back and see if you can actually follow and like what you did).
But anyways, book is going back, don't recomend it, I only gave it one extra star just to be nice.

About the Author

Professor Ruggero Maria Santilli received his degree of "Dottore in Fisica" from the University of Naples, Italy. In 1966, at the Graduate School in Physics of the University of Turin, he obtained the highest Italian degree, corresponding to the U.S. Ph.D. in Physics. He also held the chair of Professor of Nuclear Physics at the famous A. Avogadro Institute in Turin, Italy.

In 1967 Santilli was invited by the University of Miami, Florida, to conduct research with NASA financial support. In 1968 he joined Boston University as Associate Professor of Physics, where he taught Physics and conducted research for the U.S. Air Force, the latter of which led to his assuming the U.S. Citizenship.

In 1976 and 1977 Santilli was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 1978 Santilli joined Harvard University where he was co-principal investigator of research grants from the U.S. Department of Energy numbers ER-78-S-02-47420.A000 and AS02-78ER04742

In 1983 he assumed the position of President and Professor of Theoretical Physics of the newly formed Institute for Basic Research, then ocated on Harvard Grounds, as well as Principal Investigator of several DOE contracts.

From 1998 to 2001 Santili occupied the post of Doctor of research of corporations in the U.S.A., Europe and Asia. Recently he retired while remaining affiliated with various academic and corporate research institutions in the U.S.A., Ukraine, Russia, China, Italy, and Austria.

Santilli is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of three journals: Hadronic Journal, Hadronic Journal Supplement and Algebras, Groups and Geometries. He is also Editor to several journals in Physics and Mathematics, and a reviewer/advisor to many other journals.

Novel Theory

Here is a quick summary: Schwartzschild divided gravitation into exterior formulas and interior formulas. The interior formulas dealt with particles in overlapping fields. The interior formulas was ignored because it was incompatible with Einsteins formulas. As the author was working on this problem, he conceived antimatter to exist in reverse time and space. Antiparticles appear to exist in our space, while in reality they belong to a structurally different space coexisting within our own, thus setting the foundations of a multidimensional universe coexisting. When these particles appear in our space time, they create a negative curvature in space resulting in antigravity. Once point-particles are represented as they are in physical reality (extended, nonspherical, deformable), new nonlocal interactions are available not reducible to a finite set isolated points. These deformable particles are characterized the momentum of phase space existing within these deformations of isospace and isotime. These nonlocal spaces do not exists in a specific isotime and isospace. Phonons do not exist, they are the outcome of overlapping cooper pairs. Particles bound in Isoselfdual states have zero Mass & time. They are observed with different energy, mass, and time from different reference points because of local effects. Space time is an aggregate of deformations of different momentum. Isoselfdual states may produce nonlocal isogeometric propulsion with unachievable star like energies. Not recommended for light reading.

Very Useful Advice for Assistant Jobs, Whether Your Boss Wears Prada or Not

I wish I'd had Save the Assistants when I was an administrative assistant, because Lilit Marcus, founder of the website [...], knows what she's talking about. This book covers everything from what to wear (and not wear), how to read the coded messages in a job interview and how to handle worst case scenarios. I especially liked the "Former Assistants Done Good" section, profiling now-successful ex-assistants including Marc Cherry of Desperate Housewives fame, Harvey Weinstein (!) and Cheryl Hines. Learn how to handle the fake sick day, office gossip, evil bosses and how to know your place and plan for your future while keeping your job.

Get the word out

I wish more people realized how vital assistants are to the work place and quit regurgitating the stereotype that they are somehow less important than other team members. It's such a ridiculous misnomer and keeps us from being compensated justly. I thank the author for this book. It reminds me to keep believing in my contributions even though most media reflect assistants as being superfluous. One probably needs to be an assistant to appreciate how challenging and rewarding it is to help others for reasons other than one's own ego or glory.

About the Author
Paul Cornell is a British writer best known for his work in television drama, Dr. Who fiction and as the creator of one of the Doctor's spin-off companions. He has written for other television dramas including Robin Hood, Primeval, Casualty, Holby City and Coronation Street. His comics work includes ACTION COMICS, KNIGHT & SQUIRE, STORMWATCH, DEMON KNIGHTS, Captain Britain and MI-13, Black Widow: Deadly Origin and Dark X-Men.

A fun romp around the dc universe

The black ring vol 2 is an interesting fun story. It focuses around the adventures of lex Luther in the aftermath of blackest night. It includes guest appearances from characters all across the dc universe including Joker the secret six vandal and scandal savage and tons more. If you at buying this thinking it's a superman book than you been greatly mislead the story is 99% lex. This of course is far from a bad thing because it really delves into the personality of one of the most interesting people in the dc universe. The art is pretty solid but gets a little shaky near the beginning however it's the story that counts. I would recommend it to anyone looking for the villains side of the story with lots of science and crazy sci do action

Luthor takes center stage!

Lex Luthor's obsession over the power of the Black Rings from Blackest Night bring him into conflict with Larfleeze, the Orange Lantern, the Joker, and others, as this storyline reaches its climax, with nary a sign of the Man of Steel until close to the end.

About the Author
A one-time cartoonist, Ed Brubaker has been working as a writer since the early 1990s, and in that time his work has won several awards, including both the Harvey and Eisner Awards for Best Writer in 2007, and has been translated around the world. His comics credits include Batman, Catwoman, Gotham Central and Sleeper for DC Comics and Daredevil, Captain America and Criminal for Marvel. He lives and works in Seattle, Washington, with his wife, Melanie, and many pets.

There's Trouble In Gotham Which Makes A Great Read For Us

Gorgeous art and the complete story under one cover combine to make this an irresistible find- set aside some time because you'll have a hard time putting it down once you start. For those of you wondering- you should work the binding before you read it- the front cover, then the back cover, then open five pages at a time from one side then the other side until you've opened the whole book- working the spine this way reduces the chances of pages coming out as you read- as can happen in any graphic novel but especially one of this size. (yes I've personally known the horror of a brand new mint graphic novel coming apart in my hands as I read because of the binding- it can happen with sewn or glued works- so you'll want to open a few pages at a time before you read to help prevent this- and open them about 50 percent at first so you don't crack the spine; that's my advice anyway) Moody art really adds to the story- even if you have the softback versions of this it's nice having it all in one place to read with no breaks. Great if you like these characters and setting.

Overall I wasn't sure if this would be worth the money but I was not disappointed. the story and artwork were amazing and I'd definitely recommend picking it up if your a fan of the bat-universe
