Now retired, Dan Krager is a former Manager of Information Services, Certified Network Engineer, and HIPAA Officer for Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney, Illinois.
Carole Krager, CCS, is an adjunct instructor with Olney Central Community College in Olney, Illinois. A Certified Coding Specialist, she also works as an outpatient coder for the Hospital Sisters Health System in central Illinois.

The text HIPAA for Medical Office Personnel was written as a teaching tool to train students planning to enter the healthcare field. It is also very useful for general instruction for new employees in the health care field.
The federal ruling is broken down to 4 main topics: Privacy, Transactions and Code Sets, Security and Identifiers. The language is easy to understand with complete glossary of HIPAA terms. There are many scenarios throughout the book to help anyone understand how the ruling intersects with real life. The detailed specifics are not included. This is written to educate workers about the specific language and basics in HIPAA law.

Very Slow Arrival, Good book

It took almost three weeks for my book to arrive! It was in good condition when I finally arrived. There are a few places with black magic marker but I paid a great price for it so I won't complain about the marks. But I am complaining about how long it took me to get the book!

I needed this small text for a course that I am taking. I cannot provide an excellent rating, only because, I had to have it. Would I have purchased this on my own? Probably not. Having written that, I believe this text provides clear and easy to understand information on HIPAA, with examples of how HIPAA can work in certain situations. There is another small text by the same authors that cover pretty much the same thing. I prefer the green text, but if you need one, or both, I would recommend this item, along with the other text.
